NEW DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Bharatpol Portal to expedite the processing of applications by the country’s authorities. law enforcement agencies (LEA) for international assistance, through Interpol, in criminal matters. This will include requests for the issuance of ‘red’ notices and other colour-coded notices against fugitives wanted for crimes committed in India.
Highlighting that the Modi government had launched many important initiatives to empower LEAs, the Home Ministry in a statement said the Bharatpol module will significantly facilitate central law enforcement agencies and state police by enabling information sharing in real time, for faster access to international police assistance.
“Tomorrow will be a historic day as the Bharatpol portal, developed by CBI, will be launched. It will give a new edge to our investigation agencies by enhancing their global reach to fulfill the Modi government’s vision of building a safe Bharat for all.” , Shah said in X.
Shah will launch the portal along with the CBI investiture ceremony here, during which he will present police medals to 35 CBI officers.
CBI, as the national head office of Interpol in India, facilitates international cooperation in criminal matters in collaboration with agencies across the country, including LEAs. At central, state and UT levels, this coordination is executed through Interpol Liaison Officers (ILOs), who are further linked to Unit Officers (UOs) at the level of Superintendents of Police, Commissioners of Police and Section Chiefs, within their respective organizations. Currently, communications between CBI, ILO and UO are based on letters, emails and faxes, which often results in a slower response.
“The growing footprint of transnational crimes, including cybercrimes, financial crimes, online radicalization, organized crimes, drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc., requires rapid and real-time international assistance in the criminal investigations. To address this challenge, CBI has developed Bharatpol portal accessible through its official website, which will bring together all stakeholders on a common platform,” an MHA spokesperson said.
The portal, in addition to ensuring seamless and real-time international cooperation in criminal investigations through Interpol, promises to become a transformative tool for police officers on the ground, improving their efficiency in tackling crime and security challenges. . “By facilitating easier and faster access to international assistance, India’s efforts in the fight against transnational crimes will be strengthened,” the Home Ministry said.
Several dignitaries and senior officials from the ministries of external affairs and home affairs, department of personnel and training (DoPT), Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and central police organizations will attend the Bharatpol launch event.
