A fan of the Toronto Raptors has won 2025-2026 seasonal tickets after he sank a half-court shot in the last game at the team of the team in Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday.
Liam Rodrigues, who describes himself as a “big sports fan,” he said he was nervous while heading to the game.
“It was definitely a crazy series of events,” he said.
Rodrigues scored tickets for the last game at home after winning a tray event in the Stackt market on Saturday. On Sunday, he says, he practiced on the court outside his apartment in the center of Toronto, taking about 50 shots and obtaining one on the network.
On Wednesday, he was invited to risk on the half court, and the practice was worth it.
“I took the shot,” Rodrigues told CBC Toronto on Thursday. “Honestly, I thought I left it a little short. I didn’t expect it to enter and then fell and then it was a bit blurred from there.”
The crowd exploded in applause after the ball entered the network, he said.
Rodrigues was there with his mother, who attended his first Raptors game. He said she was “super happy” for him.
The Raptors beat the Charlotte Hornets 126-96, but Rodrigues spent much of the game stunned by their own victory.
“The rest of the game was buzzing a little, we just couldn’t believe what happened,” he said.
For Rodríguez, the reaction to his unique shot in life was special.
“Honestly, the best part has probably been all the people who approach me. And there are some people with whom I have not spoken in years who have just talked to congratulate. And I think that has been really great,” he said.
“And then I was in the game with my mother. That was a really great experience of sharing too.”
His fiancee, his father -in -law to be and close friends are on the list of people who plan to bring the games.
“I’m definitely excited for the next season,” he said.
For other fans who expect to win big on the half court, he says: “Shoot harder than you think.”
