Meta Artificial Intelligence Research Chief announced Tuesday that the company will leave.
Joelle Pineau, vice president of AI Research of the company, announced his departure in a LinkedIn post, saying that his last day in the Social Network Company will be May 30.
His departure arrives at a challenging moment for goal. The CEO Mark Zuckerberg has turned a priority, investing billions of dollars into an effort to become the market leader before rivals such as Openai and Google.
Zuckerberg has said that it is its objective that Meta builds an AI assistant with more than one billion users and artificial general intelligence, which is a term used to describe computers that can think and take measures comparable to humans.
“As the world undergoes a significant change, as the race is accelerated by AI, already a meter prepares for its next chapter, it is time to create space for others to follow the work,” Pineau wrote. “I will be encouraging from the side, knowing that you have all the necessary ingredients to build the best systems of the world and to take them responsible to the lives of billions of people.”
Pineau was one of the main investigators of the Meta and directed the company’s fundamental research unit, or fair, from 2023. There, he supervised studies related to the company’s computer science, some of which are finally incorporated into the company’s central applications.
He joined the company in 2017 to lead the AI de AI de Meta taro research laboratory. Pineau is also a computer professor at McGill University, where she is co -director of her reasoning and learning laboratory.
Some of the projects that Pineau helped to supervise include the family of open target source AI models and other technologies such as Pytorch software for AI developers.
Pineau’s departure announcement occurs a few weeks before the AI Conference of Metacom on April 29. There, the company details its latest flame version. Meta products director Chris Cox, whom Pineau reported, said in March that he calls 4 will help boost AI agents, the last madness in generative. The company is also expected to announce an independent application for its Chatbot Meta AI, CNBC reported in February.

Pineau did not reveal his next role, but said that “some time will be taken to observe and reflect, before jumping to a new adventure.”
