• President Zardari confers civil prizes to 69 recipients
• Military honors granted to the officers and army personnel, the Navy, the PAF
Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari awarded Civil Awards to 69 personalities on Sunday, including former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in several fields.
The investiture ceremony, held in Aiwan-Sadr, honored Pakistani citizens and foreign dignitaries for their achievements in health, education, literature, journalism, public service, research, diplomacy and economy.
The event was attended by federal ministers, president of the Senate, parliamentarians, diplomats, representatives of the media and members of civil society.
ZAB granted posthumously
Among the winners, Mr. Bhutto, former prime minister and founder of the PPP, was conferred posthumously with Nishan-i-Pakistan, the highest civil honor in the country.
The award, received by Sanam Bhutto, was awarded in recognition of Mr. Bhutto’s services to the country, democracy and people.
Mr. Bhutto was executed on April 4, 1979, after being convicted in a controversial case of murder, widely criticized for lack of due process. He was buried with his family’s mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Baksh.
In March of last year, the Supreme Court acknowledged that Mr. Bhutto’s trial was unfair and deprived of due process both at the level of trial and appeal, running what was considered a historical spontaneous abortion of justice.

Military Prize
President Zardari also conferred military awards to the officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army, the Navy and the Air Force on Sunday.
