NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha The deputy and lawyer Senior Kapil Sibal urged Sunday to the opposition of India Bloc to appear as a united front instead of appearing disarticulated to the public.
In an interview with the PTI news agency, Sibal stressed the importance of establishing a formal framework with designated spokesmen, together with a unified policy direction and an ideological basis.
In statements to PTI, Sibal said: “I think India should look like a block and not a block in the way that does so in the public domain.” He stressed that the alliance must establish a unified position on key national issues, stating: “Unless there are spokesmen of the block that represent their views, I do not think this can advance very effectively.”
On the need for a formal political structure, Sibal said he had long supported the idea, but suggested that some alliance members cannot find it pleasant or consider the inappropriate time. “Obviously, or it is not something that is acceptable to someone or another, or feel that this is not the appropriate time,” he said.
Despite the challenges, Sibal expressed optimism about the future of the opposition. “I see a future for the opposition. What way is needed, what structure is needed, we will see,” the PTI news agency quoted.
He India Alliance was formed to counteract the Nda directed by BJP Before Lok Sabha elections.
However, internal divisions, especially between Congress and AAP, became evident during state surveys, which led political commentators to argue that the lack of unity contributed to the recent electoral gains of BJP in Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi.
When asked about the WAQF bill (amendment), which can be introduced into the budget session, Sibal pointed out the lack of a majority of the NDA and the possible political implications. “Let’s see what your position is. There are elections in Bihar, and if you enter the bill, you can worry about their impact on the electoral process,” he observed, adding that the legal options remain open if the bill is approved.
In the contentious delimitation problemSibal pointed out his serious implications for the political landscape of India. He observed the recent recent meeting of Tamil Nadu Minister MK Stalin, on the matter, attended by several opposition representatives, including Congress leaders. However, he pointed out that delimitation cannot proceed without a new census. “First the census and then the delimitation. Then, ‘Abhi Dilli Door Ast’,” he joked.
Former Minister of the Union in the Governments of the UPA, Sibal left Congress in May 2022 and was chosen for Rajya Sabha as independent with the support of the Samajwadi party.
