Habibi’s Mediterranean foods remember their popular Labanés style hummus because it contains peanuts, which is not declared on the label.
There has been a reported reaction associated with the consumption of this product, said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in a statement published Wednesday.
The retired product was distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, as well as possibly other provinces and territories, the agency said.
The withdrawal that was triggered by the results of the tests affects the hummus of 450 grams of Lebanese style of Habibi that carries the number 6 83830 00911 7 and the codes 17/06/25.
A series of products withdrawals, including some that involve E. coli, Listeria and Salmonella, has caused concerns about food security. Lawrence Goodridge, director of the Canadian Food Security Research Institute at the University of Guelph, says the data does not indicate an increase in retreats, but adds that the pandemic caused some interruptions in food security.
The agency asks consumers to verify if they have removed the products and do not consume what they are allergic or sensitive, since it could cause a serious or potentially deadly reaction.
It also asks consumers not to use, use or distribute retired products and throw it back to the location from where it was bought.
The agency added that it is carrying out a food security investigation, which can lead to the withdrawal of other products.
