Sukkur Airport expected to launch international flights soon – Pakistan

International flights of the Begum Nusrat Bhutto Sukkur airport are expected to start soon in the midst of plans to expand the airport, it emerged on Wednesday after a meeting of the Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA).

PAA’s planning and development director Abbas Sheikh, and other officials visited Sukkur’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry today for a meeting and to discuss the expansion of the airport. During the occasion, the Call of the Chamber Committee, Muhammad Mohsin Farooq, announced that the approval for two weekly flights from Sukkur to Jeddah was awarded from July of this year.

He accredited the development of the efforts of the president of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce, Khalid Kakezai, and former Bilal President Waqar Khan.

The officials also discussed the expansion plans for Sukkur airport, including cargo terminal buildings and tracks to facilitate load flights.

The officials directed that estimates for exported products from Sukkur and its surroundings to develop a comprehensive development plan for passenger and load flights.

The former president of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce, Abdul Fatah Sheikh, highlighted the various products exported from the city, including dates, cotton, rice, pickles, fruits, vegetables, fish and crafts, which are currently exported through Karachi, Fine and Faisalabad.

However, with the expansion of the airport, these products will be exported directly from Sukkur, he said.

In 2019, Pakistan International Airlines launched direct flights from international passengers from Sialkot International Airport to Europe.
