President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized on Wednesday the need to win the “war on terrorism” at all costs during a visit to Quetta in the middle of the tense security environment in Baluchistan.
The visit comes in the midst of an increase in terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan. Just this month, Baluchistan witnessed the kidnapping of unprecedented Jaffar Express that resulted in at least 31 lives and a suicidal explosion in the Noshki district that left five dead.
Meanwhile, there were multiple assaults on the KP Police, among other incidents, while three terrorists were killed by security forces in an anti -terrorism operation in the Khyber district on Monday.
A PPP statement said President Zardari arrived in Quetta in a one -day visit to review the situation of the provincial law and order. Later he attended an informative session on law and order in the province.
In a statement issued on the discussion of the meeting, the president was summoned by saying: “The terrorists will be defeated at all costs.
President Zardari promised to provide modern armament to the anti -terrorist forces and expressed his desire for lasting development and peace in Baluchistan, said the statement.
“Baluchistan is close to my heart,” said the president, added that he wanted to “see all Baluchistan’s children in school.”
“Esclarecating children with modern technology are the need for the time,” he said.
The president of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, was also part of the meeting attended by Baluchistan Prime Minister, MIR Sarfraz Bugti and the provincial ministers.
A day ago, the National Security Parliamentary Committee had emphasized the urgent need to implement anti-terrorism frameworks: the National Action Plan and the Azm-Inehkam vision, to cure terrorism, as the head of the Army, Gen Munir, said the governance gaps as a key reason behind the increase in terrorism and called Pakistan a “hard state.”
The statement also emphasized the need for unity and the political resolution to face the threat of terrorism with the full strength of the State, asking for a national consensus in the fight against terrorism.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had requested in a similar way to national unity and dialogue against the threat of terrorism in the country on a visit to Quetta last week after the attack.
