Four people have been killed and at least 200 wounds in an outbreak of forest fires in Oklahoma, authorities said.
There has been one death in the counties of Lincoln, Garfield, Haskell and Pawnee, said the Emergency Management Department of Oklahoma (OEM) in an update on Monday. The foreign doctor’s office determined that the deaths were due to fires or strong winds.
It is believed that a person in Pawnee was trying to escape his home when “he got tangled on fire, hindering his ability to evacuate,” Sheriff’s office said in a press release on Saturday.
The worried neighbors contacted the authorities after looking at the burned house and found what is believed to be human remains. His identity was not released.
The representative of Oklahoma’s house, Jim Shaw, identified another victim as Allen Ferguson, a youth wrestling coach in Chandler who died while trying to save his son, Will, who is hospitalized in a critical condition.
“Allen was a hero, and his dedication to his family and our community will never be forgotten,” Shaw said in a press release from Monday night on Facebook.
The Health Department of the State of Oklahoma has identified at least 200 injuries. Oem said more than 400 houses throughout the state have been damaged. Residents are asked to report damage damage.OK.gov to help officials identify impacted areas.
Due to the winding winds and low moisture, much of the state remains under a red flag warning until 10 pm on Tuesday.
