Accused Texas megachurch pastor to surrender in Oklahoma on child sexual abuse charges

Oklahoma City – A former pastor of a Texas Megachurna is expected to become Oklahoma authorities on Monday for child sexual abuse positions.

Robert Preston Morris, 63, is expected to be delivered to Osage County officials, where he was accused last week of five positions of lascivious or indecent acts with a child, said his lawyer, Mack Martin, Associated Press.

Martin declined to comment on the charges against Morris, but said he anticipated entering a non -guilty statement in the name of Morris.

The judicial records show that a Osage County judge established a bail of $ 50,000 and ordered Morris to deliver his passport to the local sheriff.

Morris resigned last year as a shepherd of Gateway Church in the suburb of Dallas de Southlake after a woman accused him of sexually abusing her in the 1980s.

The alleged abuse began in 1982 when the victim, referred to the accusation as CC, was 12 years old and Morris was an itinerant evangelist in Hominy, Oklahoma, with her family, according to the Office of the Attorney General. Abuse supposedly continued for four years.

Cindy Clemishire, the Morris accuser, said in a statement that she is very grateful to the authorities who have worked to make the accusation possible and hopes that “justice will finally prevail.”

“After almost 43 years, the law has finally reached Robert Morris for the horrible crimes he committed against me as a child,” said Clemishire, now 55 years old. “Now, it’s time for the legal system to hold it.”

The AP generally does not name the people who say they have been sexually assaulted, but Clemishire said he would like to include his name.

It was known that Morris was politically active. The Church received President Donald Trump on his Dallas campus in 2020 for a discussion about racial relations and the economy.

Morris could face up to 20 years in prison for each of the five positions, according to the Office of the Attorney General.
