The controversy intensified after the DMK government replaced Devanagari Rupia symbol with a tamil letter in its logo for the budget.
Udaya said that the symbols they use or are not completely up to the government.
“I have no reaction. It is the government who suddenly felt that a change was necessary and wanted to implement their own script. This depends on the state government. Therefore, I have nothing to say about it. It depends completely on the government,” Kumar told the PTI news agency.
“My father was a MLA even before I was born. Now, he is old and lives in our village, leading his life peacefully. It happened that it was a coincidence, it could probably also have been another person,” he added.
Udaya Kumar, academic and designer of Tamil Nadu, was the man behind the distinctive symbol of the rupee, which was officially adopted by the Indian government on July 15, 2010.
He is the son of a former DMK member of the Legislative Assembly of the Circumscription of Rishivandiyam, N Dharmalingam.
The second of four children, Udaya Kumar, was born from N Dharmalingam, a contractor, and Jayalakshmi in 1978 in Chennai. While doing his degree in architecture at the University of Anna, he designed posters and publications that helped him define his vocation: visual design.
The design of the symbol of the Indian rupe of simple appearance was not easy for Udaya Kumar.
“The design I created was based on certain requirements that the Government had asked for. It was a competence of the Government of India. I participated and my design was selected as the winner of the competition, and was then implemented.” Udaya said.
The symbol of the rupee is an amalgam of Devanagari “RA” and the Roman capital “R” with two parallel horizontal stripes that are executed at the top that represent the national flag and also the sign “equal to”.
“The sign of Indian rupee was adopted by the government of India on July 15, 2010,” he added.
Udaya Kumar is a postgraduate degree in the Indian Institute of Bombay Technology.
