Former Law Minister and outstanding lawyer Khalid Anwer died Thursday in Karachi at the age of 87, his family said Dawn.com.
Born on November 4, 1938, in Delhi, Anwer obtained a BSC (HONS) and LLB title from the University of Punjab and later a BA (Hons) Bachelor of the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
He began his legal career in 1962 as defender of the Superior Court and legal expert and served as Minister of Law of the Country from 1997 to 1999 during the Nawaz Sharif government. He also served as a senator for a period of six years.
During his time in office, he made significant changes in the legal system of Pakistan.
“His personality was bigger than life,” Anwer’s grandson, Yousf Khalid Anwer, who is also a lawyer, he said Dawn.com.
His daughter, Ayesha Siddiqui, said: “He was exemplary in every way, either as a son for the father who adored so much, the best husband, the best father, the best uncle, the best grandfather, was a brilliant light in the life of the whole family in all conceivable forms.
“We cry, we afflict it, and we are very proud to have been blessed to have had the invaluable privilege of calling it Abba,” he said.
Said main lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan, a close and confidant friend of Anwer’s Dawn.com“As a lawyer, he always left you feeling as if he had given an unanswered case.”
Meanwhile, Munawarus Salam, partner of the law firm based in Lahore, Cornelius, Lane and Mufti, he said Dawn.com I was very sorry to listen to the news.
“He was a very kind man, always encouraging young people like us,” he said. “It was always a pleasure to help him and be part of his team.”
