Washington – Lawyers who work in a case against the government’s efficiency department found new ammunition on Tuesday night in the form of President Donald Trump during his joint speech to Congress.
“I have created the new government efficiency department, Doge. You may have heard of it. Maybe. Which is headed by Elon Musk, who is in the gallery tonight,” Trump said during his speech.
The appointment was quickly collected by Kelly B. McClanahan, a lawyer in a case that focuses on Doge’s legality and operations. McClanahan, who represents the parties that demand Doge, entered a new judicial presentation shortly after the president’s comment highlighted the event as “new evidence”, emphasizing that Trump had affirmed that Musk directed Doge.
The presentation marks the last impulse to determine who calls the shots in Doge, since Musk seems to assume a main role despite not being appointed administrator. NBC News has previously reported that some legal analysts believe that the lack of clarity on the role of Musk could intend to protect and dujar from demands for their activities.
McClanahan wrote that the president’s comment “concludes conclusively that the discovery issued is urgently needed to determine the nature of the Government’s efficiency department and its relationship with the Doge service of the United States, of which Amy Gleason is the interim administrator.”
The White House announced at the end of last month that Gleason, a former digital service advisor of the United States, serves as an interim administrator of Dege, a revelation that occurred after repeated questions about who served as the head of the group.
However, Musk still seems to take the front there, and the White House has connected it repeatedly with leading his efforts.
“Elon Musk is supervising Dge,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, shortly before Gleason’s role was announced.
Trump has previously said that Musk is leading Doge’s efforts, commenting in February that he had “signed an order creating the government’s efficiency department and put a man named Elon Musk in charge.”
But when asked about Musk’s role in Doge, the White House has referred to him as a special government employee, insisting that he is not the administrator. In a separate case, the designated Trump, Joshua Fisher, wrote last month that Musk is Trump’s main advisor and “has no greater authority than other White House advisors.”
“Mr. Musk is an employee at the White House office,” added Fisher, who is the director of the Administration Office. “He is not an employee of the US Doja service or the temporary organization of the US Doge Service.
A lawyer from the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a comment request on Wednesday morning.
