New Delhi: Delhi’s Patiala house court He accepted the request of the Delhi Police to withdraw a case against the former Jnu student leader Shehla Rashid Shora for his tweets accusing the Indian army to enter houses and “torture” the locals in Kashmir.
The Chief Metropolitan Judge, Anuj Kumar Singh, approved the order on February 27 on a request transferred by the Prosecutor’s Office, who said that Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, has withdrawn his sanction to prosecute Shora.
A FIR was recorded against Rashid under section 153a of IPC at the Cell Special H station on the basis of a complaint of a lawyer Alokh Alok Srivastava.
The proposal for a prosecution sanction moved by the Delhi Police and supported by the Department of Origin of the City Government had claimed that Shora tweeted on the army on August 18, 2019: ‘The Armed Forces are entering houses at night, collecting children, simple houses, deliberately spilling rations on the floor, mixing oil with rice, etc.
On another tweet, she had said: “In Shopian, 04 men were called to the Army and” Questioned “(tortured) camp. A microphone was maintained near them so that the whole area could hear them scream and terrorize. This created an atmosphere of fear throughout the area.”
The former leader of the Student Union of the University of Jawaharlal Nehru (Jnusu) was accused of promoting enmity between different groups and enjoying harmful acts for the maintenance of harmony through their tweets.
The accusations were rejected by the army as unfounded.
