Nueva Delhi: All citizens born after October 1, 2023 – The day the law of registration of births and deaths amended, 2023, will now enter into force Birth date test while requesting a passport.
However, those born before this cutting date can still present alternative documents such as Birth Proof, according to the passport rules (amendment), 2025, published in the notification of the Gazette on Friday. Alternative documents Transfer or certificate of exit of the school or registration issued by a last time recognized by the last recognized educational board; PAN; Pension service or pay registration in case of government servers; driver license; Electoral photographic identity card; or policy bonus issued by LIC or public companies. In the past, a cutting date was established for the mandatory presentation of the birth certificate – January 26, 1989. However, this was eliminated in 2016, with the passport rules amended to allow all applicants to attach as proof of birth any of the documents mentioned above with their passport application.

Voters’ List, Registry of Marriage, Govt Appaintments, Issuance of Aadhaar Number, to enhance convenient and avoid multiply of documents to prove the date and place of birth in the country.
