NEW DELHI: Maha Kumbh 2025 It will be remembered for many things, but a Marvel of Engineering stands out: the unification of the three currents separated from the gangs in a single cohesive flow. Through a 2.5 kilometer Dredging projectThe course of the river was restored, claiming land equivalent to 1,000 tennis courts. This first intervention of its kind extended Mela’s premises in 22 hectares, ensuring a better organization and accessibility for millions of devotees.
The bargain had previously changed its course, dividing into three currents that affected their purity and created logistic challenges for the Kumbh Mela. The authorities indicated that the unequal river bed led to the formation of sand islands, making the task particularly complex. “We trust advanced technology and our experience in Water body management Overcoming what initially seemed an unsurpassed challenge, ”said an irrigation department official.
Anil Garg, main secretary, irrigation department and water resources, highlighted the achievement scale: “This feat of recovering land equivalent to 1,000 tennis courts and expanding Sangam’s nose to accommodate two Lakh pilgrims at the same time has no parallel,” he said.
This success was driven by a mixture of technology, engineering and human determination. “The project had to be completed within a two -month window from mid -October until December 31. We implemented three high capacity dredging machines: two with a capacity of 250 cubic meters and one with 350 cubic meters, to eliminate more than six meters of cubic sand LKH,” said Gaurav Chopra, managing director of Cleantec Infra.
Chopra also highlighted the unique challenges raised by the strong currents of the river and fluctuating water levels. “To maintain stability, the dredges were anchored to Pontones Bridges, allowing continuous operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in the shifts. Despite the setbacks as broken pins and changing machinery, the team remained focused, ”he said. With the orientation of Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath and the strategic contribution of Iit-Guwahati, an additional dredge was displayed to accelerate work.
The unified flow of the bargain was successfully achieved right in time for Maha Kumbh 2025, creating a more structured and expansive Sangam area for devotees. This not only improved the spiritual experience, but also assured the softest logistics for the great crowds of the event.
In addition to merging the currents, the project involved leveling and preparing the ground with five metric tons of Lakh sand, causing the mela area to be more accessible. Officials and experts believe that this project could serve as a replicable model to administer other bodies of water throughout the country.
