Suparco forecasts Ramazan to begin on Mar 2, Eidul Fitr to fall on 31st – Pakistan

The space research commission and the upper atmosphere of Pakistan (Supparco) predicted on Monday that the sacred month of Ramazan would begin on March 2 (Sunday), while Eidul Fitr would be observed on the 31st of the month.

A press release issued today said the commission had published its prognosis for the visibility of the Moon based on scientific evaluations, astronomical calculations and modern observation data.

However, he emphasized that the Central Committee Ruet-I-Hilal would examine the testimonies of the whole country and formally announce the official beginning of the Holy Month since the observation without the aid of the Middle Moon to the naked eye was a religious obligation to determine the beginning of the month.

“According to the precise astronomical models, the new moon (conjunction) for Ramazan will occur on February 28, 2025 at 05:45 PST. However, the visibility of the crescent depends on key factors such as the age of the moon, its angular separation from the sun, altitude at sunset and atmospheric conditions, “said Supparco.

He said that the probability of visibility of the moon on February 28 “was not visible even with optical help” and, therefore, the probability of a moon sighting on the date in Pakistan is “extremely low.”

“Consequently, they are expected to complete 30 days, and the first day of fasting will probably be observed on March 2. In Saudi Arabia, the new moon is also expected to be born on February 28. However, due to The moon position in relation to the horizon and atmospheric clarity, the crescent is expected to be visible to lead to Ramzan on March 1.

“According to astronomical models, Shawwal’s moon will be visible on March 30, indicating that Eidul Fitr will probably be observed on March 31 in Pakistan,” said the press release.
