The residents of Alto Kohistan organized a seated off the office of the attached commissioner on Monday, observing a closing strike and Jam in Komila Bazaar against the failure of the Water and Energy Development Authority (WAPDA) to honor their commitments in Dasu of 4.700MW Hydroelectric Energy Project.

“Wapda agreed our 13 demands, but could not meet them, forcing us to take the streets again,” he emphasized.
The demands of those affected by the DASU project included compensation for the demolished houses for the construction of the dam, the compensation of the stoves, the construction of the hospital for the local population and the provision of employment for the premises and their recruitment in the operation of the project.
They also demanded an increase in development funds for Alto Kohistan, the assignment of one percent of DHPP’s revenues for local lifting, commercial rates for areas near the Karakoram road and the establishment of new schools, schools and schools and A university in the district.
Hafeezur Rehman said those affected never opposed the project, but sacrificed their properties and led to difficulties for the project to be completed successfully, benefiting the entire country.
He said that the sitting continued and would continue unless Wapda’s management practically accepted its demands one step beyond paper agreements, since until now they had signed several agreements.
Khuram Rehman Jadoon, additional deputy commissioner, Alto Kohistan, said Dawn.com“The protesters organized a sitting out of our office, although their problem is relevant to Wapda.”
“His problem is with DHPP, so his officials could address their demands,” he said.
On the other hand, the protest in Chiles of Gilgit Baltistán entered its ninth day, with the protesters who demanded rights as affected by the Diamer-Bhasha dam. They have presented a letter of 31 points that addresses problems such as compensation and resettlement.
The Minister of Affairs of Kashmir and GB, Amir Muqam, on Sunday visited the protesters in Chilas and assured them that their problems would be addressed with priority since Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had formed a committee to review the demands.
Muqam had asked the protesters to finish their sitting, however, they continued it, which entered the ninth day.
Two mega energy bank projects were being built at the top of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Diamer areas of Gilgit Baltistan.
