The CWC member, Ramesh Chennithala, defended the treatment of the Tharoor party, noting that they had given him multiple opportunities. “The Congress needs Tharoor and that was the reason why he became deputy four times and a central minister once. Chennithala recalled how he had invited Tharoor to join Congress when he returned from the UN and encouraged him to play from the Circumscripen of Palakkad LS. He said that Tharoor received recognition within the party, including the invitation to a meeting of the KPCC general agency even when he was not a member.
K Muraleedharan of Congress dismissed Tharoor’s claims of a leadership vacuum in Kerala. “Their services should be used nationally, especially to attract young people to the party. In Kerala, common officials like us are there to work for the party,” he said.
