Among men, the unemployment rate in urban areas remained stable at 5.8 percent in October 2024 compared to the rate of the same quarter of the previous year. The rate was 5.7 percent in July to September 2024.
Workforce participation rate In the current weekly state (CWS) in urban areas for people aged 15 and over, 50.4 percent in October to December 49.9 percent in the same quarter of the previous year. The rate was 50.4 percent in September 2024 from July to September.
The workforce refers to the part of the population, which supplies or offers labor supply to carry out economic activities for the production of goods and services and, therefore, includes people employed and unemployed.
The NSSO had launched PLFS in April 2017.
On the basis of PLFS, a quarterly bulletin is presented that provides estimates of the labor force indicators, namely the unemployment rate, the population relationship of workers (WPR), the rate of participation of the workforce (LFPR ), The distribution of workers by broad status in employment and work industry at CWS.
Estimates of unemployed people in CWS give an average unemployment image in a short period of seven days during the survey period.
In the CWS approach, a person is considered unemployed if he did not work even for an hour at any day during the week, but he was looking for or was available to work for at least one hour in any day during the period.
The workforce, according to CWS, is the number of people employed or unemployed on average in a week prior to the survey date. LFPR is defined as the percentage of the population in the workforce.
