The opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing Singh to remain in office despite the growing disturbances. Gandhi said that Singh’s resignation occurred after the growing public pressure, an investigation by the Supreme Court and a planned motion of distrust by Congress.
The general secretary of Congress, Jairam Ramesh, said that Singh resigned due to the imminent motion of non -confidence, stating that he no longer had majority support.
