Petition calling for Denmark to buy California gets 200,000 signatures

A satirical offer of President Donald Trump’s proposal to buy Greenland has appeared in the form of a request that suggests that Denmark should buy California.

More than 200,000 people have registered in the plan that says that the Scandinavian country needs “more sun, palm trees and roller skates.”

“Måke Califørnia Great ægain”, reads at the top of the petition website, replacing some English cards with the Danish.

Among the so -called “supporters” of the petition are the former Scandinavian king, Sven the Viking, Karen of Accounting and Laris Ulrich, the Danish drummer and founding member of the Metallica band.

“Imagine exchanging your rain boots for flip flops,” says the petition, perhaps cognant of the fact that during the dark winter months, Denmark has only one hour of sunlight per day. On the contrary, California has 300 sunny days a year.

As part of the purchase plan, the petition, launched on the Dinmarkification.com website, has established a crowdfunding target of $ 1 billion, “give or take a few billion”, and the objective of 500,000 signatures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the Office of the Governor of California Gavin Newsom did not immediately respond to the request for comments of NBC News.

And at the bottom of the The Petition website, which does not mention Greenland, it is a message that reads: “Discharge of responsibility: this campaign is 100% real … in our dreams.”

The United States has considered buying Greenland at least twice, in 1867 and again in 1946, when President Harry S. Truman proposed to buy it for $ 100 million.

Since then, Trump has suggested multiple occasions that the United States should buy Greenland, the largest island in the world between the North Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Ocean and technically part of North America, although it has been under the control of Denmark since the fourteenth century, but he, but he, but he, but is. It became an autonomous territory in 1979.

Denmark has repeatedly rejected his Oberturas, insisting that Greenland is not for sale.

Last week, the Danish Parliament approved a bill that prevents political parties in the country from receiving foreign or anonymous contributions.

The bill “should be seen in the light of geopolitical interests in Greenland and the current situation in which representatives of a great allied power have expressed interest in taking over and controlling Greenland,” said the document.

While there has been a popular and long -standing movement that asks for independence from Denmark in Greenland, most of the 56,000 inhabitants of the island, most of the Inuit tribes, seem to agree that the island is not on sale.

“Greenland is for the people of Greenland. We do not want to be Danish, we don’t want to be Americans, ”said Prime Minister of the Territory, Múte B. Egdee, last month.

It remains to be seen if the Californians will be open to the proposal of the request that Denmark should own, although he promises to send executives of the Lego of the Danish toys to ensure the state of the United States, calling them the “best negotiators” of the country.

“The rule of law, universal medical care and fact -based policy could be applied,” says the petition. “We will bring Hygge to Hollywood, bicycle lanes to Beverly Hills and organic Smørrebrød to each corner.”
