The Munda Exterior said Monday that the Pakistan embassy in Libya was looking for details of the “Pakistani affected” as a ship that transported around 65 passengers overturned near the port of Marsa Dela.
The development follows a similar incident last month in which a boat that transports 80 passengers overturned near Morocco. Although the identities of at least 13 Pakistani in the incident were confirmed, according to the reports, more than 40 Pakistani were killed by traffickers of African people in the boat and only 22 survived the tragedy.
In a statement today, FO said: “Our Embassy in Tripoli has reported that a ship that transports approximately 65 passengers overturned near the port of Marsa Dela, northwest of the city of Zawiya, Libya.”
He added that the Pakistan embassy in Tripoli had immediately sent a team to the “Zawiya Hospital to help local authorities [the] identification of the deceased ”.
“The embassy is also trying to determine more details of those affected Pakistani,” said the statement.
It is not clear if the passengers aboard the ship were migrants.

In December, several Pakistani died in a boat overturning incident in Greece. According to the estimate, more than 80 Pakistani drowned in the accident, 36 of which were rescued. The remaining have been presumed dead.
More than 30 officials of the Federal Research Agency have been reserved and fired from the service for their alleged collusion with human smugglers to illegally send the Pakistani abroad.
In June 2023, hundreds of migrants drowned when a crowded ship overturned and sank into international waters in front of the southwest Greek coastal city of Pylos. It was one of the most mortal boat disasters in the Mediterranean Sea and there were at least 209 Pakistani in the boat.
In April of the same year, the Pakistani were among dead dozens when two migrant ships sank into the Mediterranean in different cities in western Libya.
Previously in February 2023, the Pakistani were among 59 people killed when a wooden sailboat transported migrants crashed into rocks on the southern coast of Italy.
