National-level powerlifter shot dead in Sonipat | India News


Rohtak: A drunk man shunned a weight lifter at the national level of 20 years, shooting him five bullets after an argument on the motorcycle staked from the athlete, that the assailant alleged that he was blocking his car in a residential lane in the Sonipat from Haryana on Sunday.
Vansh, a gold medalist at the district level and national silver medalist, had gone to know his classmates, Akshita and Vanshika, Pragati Nagar to collect a charger. He parked his motorcycle on the corner of the lane around 3 pm.
Shortly after, the defendant, Kuldeep, arrived in his car and played repeatedly, claiming that the motorcycle was blocking his way. Vansh came out, and there was a heated argument, drawing Akshita and Vanshika to intervene. When Kuldeep began to assault women, Vansh tried to stop him. Enraged, Kuldeep went to his car, took a gun and shot Vansh, twice in his stomach and once each in the chest, mouth and back, the police said.
Vansh was urgently taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
Kuldeep, who lived near the railway line adjacent to Akshita and Vanshika’s house, fled in his car with his family after blocking his house, police said. It has been reserved for murder. Kuldeep was involved in the gravel and dust business in Kundli.
Vansh trained at Goldy Gym near Chhotu Ram Chowk in Sonipat. He took weight lifting three years ago and won a gold medal in the 74 kg category at the district level in 2023. In 2024, he assured a silver medal in a national championship held in New Delhi. Akshita, one of her classmates, was also her gym companion.
Vansh’s father was scheduled to undergo renal operation in Delhi the same day that his son was killed, a family member said.
