Two people, including the victim’s husband, have been accused in relation to the death of a soldier from Fort Campbell, authorities said on Saturday.
Sofia Rodas, 35, was accused of murder and manipulation of evidence, and Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, 40, was accused of manipulating evidence in relation to the death of PFC. Katia Dueas-Aguilar, the Clarksville Police Department, Tennessee, announced in a social media statement.
Cruz was Duena-Aguilar’s husband, authorities said. He and Rhodes were already in federal custody for “not directly associated” positions with the investigation into the death of Dueas-Aguilar, authorities said.
Duenes-Aguilar, 23, was found dead inside his Clarksville house on May 18, 2024.
He had been parked in Fort Campbell in Kentucky since 2019, where he worked as a specialist in information technology and was a member of the 101st combat aviation brigade of the airborne division.
The Local Police said at that time that they were investigating their death as homicide.
Cruz and Rodas were accused by the Grand Jury of the Montgomery County, authorities said. They were extradited to Clarksville on Friday and are arrested in the Montgomery County prison.
A prison representative confirmed that both remained in custody on Saturday night and said Cruz will be prosecuted on Monday. Rodas will receive a court date in three or four weeks and will then be processed, said the representative.
None of the defendants have a lawyer on the list, said the prison representative, pointing out that if they have not yet representation, they will be assigned a public defender after their positions.
The Clarksville Police Department said the case remains open and that the investigation is active.
“The successful progression of this case highlights the critical association between the application of local law and military authorities to address severe crimes that affect the members of the service and their families,” said the department.
