The mourning process of Muharram Central in Karachi left Nishtar’s park towards his destination in Hussainiya Iraniyan Imam Bargah in Kharadar on Saturday amid a tight security, according to the police.
At the beginning of the week, the Karachi Traffic Police issued a traffic plan for 8-10 Muharram, describing the procession routes and alternative traffic flows.
Strict security measures are being taken throughout the country, such as the deployment of the army, as well as an offensive against sectarian content and hate traffickers, ahead of Ashura (Muharram 10), which will be observed tomorrow.
“At 1:29 pm, the ninth procession of Muharram-uham has [departed] From Nishtar Park, ”said Karachi police on an alert.
Cellular services were also suspended in the areas adjacent to the Route of the Central Procession, as well as the smallest procession routes in the city, according to a letter from Sindh IGP.
Early in the day, Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, together with the mayor of Karachi, lawyer Murtaza Wahab, Senator Waqar Mehdi and the inspector General of the Police Police (IGP) of Sindh, reviewed the security arrangements for the processions of the ninth Muharram in several locations of the city.
The Interior Minister Lanjar ordered the law enforcement agencies to take infallible security measures, according to the press release.
Lanjar, together with Mayor Wahab, met with the organizers of the ninth central procession of Muharram.
On Friday, more than 5,500 police personnel were deployed in Karachi for the security of Muharram’s eighth processions.
