76-year-old man arrested on suspicion of poisoning children at U.K. summer camp

London-a 76-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of managing poison after the children fell into a summer camp in the center of England, police said in a statement on Thursday.

He said eight children to the hospital, the Police in Leinteshire, a county to about 100 miles north of London. All of them have been discharged.

The investigation began after the police was alerted by a third on the children who felt ill in a summer camp near the people of Stathern, according to the statement, and added that the officers and ambulance teams were sent to the scene to protect the affected children even more.

A classification center was installed in a nearby town hall to evaluate children and officers contacted the parents or guardians of the children who were taken to the hospital.

A 76 -year -old man was arrested under suspicion of administering poison or “a harmful thing with the intention of damaging/agar/bothering. He remains in custody at this time,” the statement added.

“This is a complex and sensitive investigation and we will continue to provide updates to both parents and tutors and the public as we can,” said the Inspector Neil Holden, the senior investigator officer, in the statement.

He added that the officers remain in the scene to continue consultations about the circumstances surrounding the incident and to provide advice and support.

The local legislator Ed Argar, a member of the Parliament for Melton and Syston, told the BBC that the reports were “clearly shocking” and “deeply worrying.”

“Our thoughts are with the affected young people, wishing them a complete recovery,” he said, adding that “he would warn against the people who speculate while the police do that job.”
