The US attacks in a Yemeni fuel port killed at least 74 people, the Hutis rebels said Friday in the most fatal attack of the 15 -month Washington campaign against the group.
The attacks at Ras ISSA aimed to cut supplies and funds for the rebels that control large extensions of the poorest country in the Arabian Peninsula, said the United States army.
The images transmitted by a television station managed by Houthi showed large fires illuminating the night sky, after the last in an intensified flood of attacks under the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Health of Houthi, Anees Alasbahi, said rescuers were still looking for victims in the fuel terminal at the Red Sea, suggesting that the death toll could increase.
“The death toll … has increased to 74 martyrs and 171 wounded in a non -final count,” he said.
AFP He could not verify the figures independently.
The Hutis then announced missile attacks against Israel and two US carriers.
Israel’s army previously said Friday that he had intercepted a missile launched since Yemen.
The protesters sing “Death to America! Death to Israel!” Gathered in cities from all over the country, including a great demonstration in the capital, Sanaa, Friday.
“US military accumulation and continuous aggression against our country will only lead to more counterattacks and attack operations, confrontations and confrontations,” said Houthi Military spokesman Yahya Sari to the crowd in Sanaa.
‘Signal to Tehran’
The strikes on Thursday arrived just before the United States resumes negotiations with Iran for their nuclear program in Rome on Saturday, after warnings that Tehran is approaching to build an atomic weapon.
“Military actions in Yemen are clearly sending a signal to Tehran,” said Mohammed Albasha, a headquarters in the United States. AFP.
The American army has hammered the Hutis with air attacks almost a day during the last month in an attempt to eliminate their attacks against sending in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
When demanding solidarity with the Palestinians, the rebels began to attack the key maritime routes and the Israeli territory after Gaza’s conflict began in October 2023. He paused his attacks during a recent two -month fire.
In a statement, the United States Central Command (Centcom) said: “US forces took measures to eliminate this fuel source for huti terrorists backed by Iran and deprive them of illegal income that Houthi’s efforts have financed to terrorize the entire region for more than 10 years.”
The strikes of the United States began in January 2024, but they resumed and multiplied with Trump, starting with an offensive that killed 53 people on March 15.
Images transmitted in the early hours of Friday by Al-Masirah He showed a fireball that was lit on the coast when the thick columns of smoke increased above what appeared to be a continuous fire.
The Houthi television station then projected interviews with survivors thrown on stretchers, including a man with burns in his arms.
“We escaped. The strikes came one after another, then everything was on fire,” said a man who said in the port Al-Masirah.
Shipping attacks
Israel carried out air attacks in Ras ISSA and other parts of Yemen in January, describing the objectives as military infrastructure. Similar Israeli strikes that also included Ras Issa took place in September.
Iran called the latest American attacks “barbarians”, while Hamas denounced them as “flagrant aggression.”
The United States bombing campaign intensified last month after Houthi’s threats to resume attacks against international shipping in protest of Israel’s help blockade to the Gaza Strip.
“Today’s message is unmistakable: the United States is pointing not only to Huti military assets and personnel, but also its economic infrastructure,” said Albasha.
Houthi attacks on the Red Sea shipping route, which normally transports about 12 percent of global trade, have forced many companies to cost costs around the tip of southern Africa.
Separately, spokeswoman for the United States Department of the United States, Tammy Bruce, accused China Chang Guang Satellite Technology Company satellite of “directly supporting” huti attacks against the “interests of the United States.”
Bruce initially did not provide details, but then referred to “a Chinese company that provides satellite images to the hutis.”
