7.7 magnitude earthquake hits Myanmar, shakes buildings in Bangkok


A strong earthquake of 7.7 shook the Thai capital on Friday, causing the buildings to balance.

The United States Geological Service and the GFZ Geosciences Center in Germany said the noon tremor was 10 kilometers shallow (6.2 miles), with an epicenter in neighboring Myanmar, according to preliminary reports.

Bangkok’s metropolitan area is home to more than 17 million people, many of whom live in high -rise apartments.

The alarms increased in buildings when the earthquake hit around 1:30 pm local time (2:30 am et), and surprised residents were evacuated by stairs of condominiums and high -height hotels in the densely populated Bangkok center center.

They remained in the streets, looking for the shadow of the noon sun in the minutes after the earthquake.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The earthquake was overwhelming enough to send water coming out of pools, some high in high time, while the trembling trembled.

The Epicenter of the earthquake was in the center of Myanmar, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of the city of Monywa.

There were no immediate reports on the effect of the earthquake in Myanmar, which is in the middle of a civil war.
