Six people were successfully rescued on Friday after the support cable of a gunder broke in the middle of the Indo River between Shangla and Torghar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Declanted cupcakes and rope bridges are commonly used in the mountainous regions of KP, offering the fastest means of traveling between neighboring towns separated by deep ravines and valleys.
The Tellesilla, locally known as ZangooIt serves as the only means for Martung Tehsil residents in Shangla and the adjacent district of Torghar crossing the river. People of the same tribe reside on both sides, making elevator a vital means to travel and transport goods.
Torghar’s attached commissioner, Safdar Azam, who personally supervised the rescue, said Dawn.com: “The administrations in Shangla and Torghar coordinated a successful rescue operation, and the stranded passengers were brought safely to the riverbank.”
According to Rasool Khan Sharif, Spokesman for Rescue 1122 in Shangla, the six passengers had traveled from the areas of Kamach and Nusrat Khel to Torghar.
“They were stranded in the air when one of the elevator traction cables broke,” Sharif told Dawn.com.
The former Nazim Haji Sultan Nabi explained to Dawn.com That the tellet was “essential to transport food and supplies” of Thakot in Battagram and Torghar, since Shangla’s main markets are far from Senkarai’s villages.
According to Nabi, the Tellesilla covers approximately 600 meters long and hangs at a height of approximately 300 feet on the river.
In a similar incident in 2023, a Tellesilla in Battagram stuck when his cables broke, leaving eight passengers stranded on a river.
A 14 -hour rescue operation was launched to save people, mostly students, who tried to cross a river in the Battagram Allai Tehsil. The operation concluded late at night when the eight passengers were taken safe.
An eyewitness told Dawn.com That one of the passengers, who had a pre -existing medical condition, was transferred to a hospital for his exam.
The rest of the recovered received initial first aid in a camp established by rescue personnel 1122, however, it was said that all those rescued were of good health and spirit.
