On Thursday, a jury condemned a woman who sneaked in a New York flight to Paris without a boarding pass by overlooking security agents and airline door at the John F. Kennedy International Airport last year.
The brief judgment of Svetlana Dali concluded with a finding finding on a position of Stowaway by the jury in the federal court in Brooklyn. The jury selection and the opening statements were Tuesday, and Dali took the stand on Wednesday.
The judge did not immediately establish a sentence date. Dali faces up to six months in prison, according to his sentencing guidelines. To date, he has been in custody for more than five months.
Dali’s lawyer, Michael Schneider, declined to comment to The Associated Press after the verdict.
The security video shows Dali, a 57 -year -old Russian citizen with the US residence, globa in a group of passengers with a ticket while they pass two employees of Delta Air Lines who checked tickets and did not seem noticed to Dali. Then he walks with the group to an air bridge to an airplane destination to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.
In the Court, Dali said he entered the plane without being asked for a boarding thought, although he acknowledged that he did not have one.
Prosecutors said Dali had initially been rejected from a safety control point in JFK by an official of the transport security administration after he could not show a boarding pass. But he was able to join a special security lane for airline employees and, masked by a large air crew of Air Europa, reached an area where it was selected and throbbing. Then he went to the door of Delta.
On the plane, prosecutors say he hid in a bath for several hours and that the members of the Delta crew discovered it until the plane approached Paris. Dali told the court that he entered there because he felt sick.
The crew members notified the French authorities, who arrested it before entering Customs at the Paris airport, according to judicial documents.
She was finally transferred back to New York. For two hours of interrogation by an FBI agent, Dali said he flew to France because he had to leave the United States, where he said that the police refused to protect her from people who poisoned her, according to judicial documents.
Dali was initially released after his arrest with electrical monitoring. But then she was arrested again in Buffalo, New York, after she cut the monitor and tried to enter Canada.
Prosecutors said Dali evaded security measures in two other airports before JFK incident, and believe he could have stored on another flight.
Two days before she sneaks on the Paris flight, she was able to overcome the control points of TSA, identification and boarding at Bradley International Airport, near Hartford, Connecticut, hiding among other passengers. The authorities said he tried unsuccessfully to go to an airplane and then left the airport.
In February 2024, Customs and Border Protection agents of the United States discovered that Dali hides in a bathroom at Miami International Airport, prosecutors said. Dali, who was found in an insured area in the international arrivals area, was digital footprints, his luggage was reviewed and escorted out of the airport, after the agents could not confirm their story that he had just arrived at an Air France flight and was waiting for his husband, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said federal agents did not make any finding that Dali had traveled illegally as a trampling to Miami, but his statements to the police after his arrest in Paris seemed to indicate that he had flown to Miami illegally. Dali told the authorities that he returned to the United States in February 2024 after spending time in Europe, but there were no records that he was admitted in the United States in the last five years.
