New Delhi: Total 544 convicts in the death corridor are presented in the country’s prisons as of December 31, 2022, the Interior Ministry informed Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Answering a question by TMC Deputy Adhikari Deepak Dev, Interior Minister Junior, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, said NCRB data show that the maximum convicts of capital punishment are housed in UP prisons (95), followed by Gujarat (49), Jharkhand and Maharashtra (45 each), MP (39), Karnataka (32), Bihar (27) and Bengala (26). In Delhi, 8 death convicts were delivered, according to the NCRB report on crime in India published in 2023.
Eleven States and UTS (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, and Romucherry) did not have no no Convicts of the Corrara de la Demia In prisons.
