Karachi police announced Friday that they would deploy 5,367 personnel as part of their security plan for the Yom-I-Ali procession of the next day, according to a press release.
The statement declared that strict security measures had been taken along the procession route, which commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali, and that the staff were ready to deal with any possible situation.
“The security service personnel includes 76 higher officers, 725 NGOs, 3469 police officers and agents, 137 Women’s Police Personnel, 70 special branch staff, while 75 Fast Response Force personnel have been deployed,” reads the statement.
Police added that 815 Traffic Police personnel would also be deployed to maintain traffic flow in the metropolis, while the travel doors would be installed at the entry and exit points of the procession.
In addition, the pump elimination squad and the special branch staff would also be deployed to perform an integral search for the participants.
“In the case of any emergency, rescue agencies and ambulance services have also been put on alert to provide immediate medical assistance,” said the press release.
“The Karachi Police urges the public to closely monitor their environment and immediately inform any suspicious activity or unusual situation to Madagadgar 15. The Karachi police will continue to fulfill their responsibilities to protect the lives and property of citizens and restore the law and order,” the statement concluded.
Last year, Yom-i-Ali was observed in all Sindh on April 1, since mourning processions in all the main cities and towns throughout the province ended peacefully in the midst of strict security.
In Karachi, the main procession was directed from Nishtar Park and after passing through its traditional route, it ended in Imambargah Hussainia Iraní in Kharadar at night.
As part of the security measures, all the entrance points along the procession route were sealed by placing containers late at night.
