The federal authorities of the nearby Savannah offered their help to army researchers.
The agents are “aware of the incident in Fort Stewart” and are “coordinating with the criminal investigation of the army,” said the FBI.
Governor Brian Kemp ‘Saddened’ Fort Stewart Shooting
Georgia’s governor Brian Kemp said he is in close contact with the police on the scene in Fort Stewart.
“While we remain in close contact with the police in the field, Marty, the girls, and I are sad for today’s tragedy in Ft. Stewart,” Kemp said in a statement.
“We keep the victims, their families and all who respond to the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and ask that Georgians from everywhere do the same.”
Local school system also locking
The nearby schools in Liberty County have also ordered a closure following the base shooting.
Button Gwinnett and Joseph Martin Elementary Schools and Snelson Golden Middle School are in “soft blockade of great caution,” said the district.
Today was the first day of school in the district.
Fort Stewart in Lockdown
The shots exploded in Fort Stewart in Georgia this morning, which led the base commander to block the facilities following this “active shooter” incident.
“Fort Stewart is in a blocking status due to an active shooter incident in the second area of the armored brigade combat equipment,” according to a statement from the Fort Stewart Hunter army aerodrome.
“The installation was blocked at 11:04 am and the police are on the scene at that time. Victims have been reported and the situation is ongoing.”
The base of the army is about 40 miles southwest of Savannah.
