Six people died and seven were injured after a passenger bus caught fire after colliding with a Rickshaw charger that transported gasoline at the Western Bypass in Quetta, police said on Monday.
Fatal traffic accidents on roads occur frequently in Pakistan, mainly due to overalls, dangerous overtaking and contempt for traffic rules.
According to the Shalkot police deputy superintendent (DSP) Athar Rashid, “in the tragic incident, five passengers on the bus died and another seven were injured.”
He said that the bodies of the deceased had become unrecognizable due to burns.
“The injured were taken to the Bolan Medical Complex and the Civil Hospital, and two of them are in critical condition,” he said.
DSP Rashid added that the local bus went from the Nawan area to Hazarganji when the accident occurred in the Raisani area at Western bypass, adding that the bus caught fire after crashing with a rickshaw loaded with gasoline.
In a statement, Baluchistan government spokesman Shahid Rind, expressed pain for the incident.
“We express our sincere sympathy to the families of the passengers who died in the tragic accident,” he said. “The injured are given immediate and better medical assistance. The treatment and the facilities are guaranteed for them.”
Rind said that an investigation was launched to the incident, stating: “Strict measures will be taken against those responsible once the investigation is completed.”
He also said that all possible aid and support will be provided to affected families.
Separately, the advisor on the local government Hamza Zehri also extended condolences to the afflicted families, ordering the authorities to provide facilities to the injured.
He said: “No one will be allowed to play with the lives and property of citizens. [The] Metropolitan Corporation must confiscate mini pumps and gasoline facilities established in densely populated areas of the city. “
“Those responsible for the Western Bypass incident will be identified and punished,” he added.
In April, a bus driver was burned alive and seven passengers were injured when his bus caught fire after hitting a mini truck loaded with groove on the M-4 highway near Nawan Lahore Interchange.
Earlier this year, a fatal collision between two cars near Dhabeji in the Karachi-Thatta section of the National Highway was charged four lives, including a man of newly married and his mother, and left six injured when the vehicles caught fire after the accident.
