Three men have been convicted of first -degree murder and attempted murder in relation to a fatal shooting in North York in 2020 who left a died 12 -year -old boy and three other injured.
On Saturday, the jury returned for the fifth day of deliberations and found Rashawn Chambers, Jahwayne Smart and Cjay Hobbs guilty of killing Dante Sebastian Andreatta.
Andreatta was purchases of groceries with his mother on November 7, 2020, when he was hit by a lost bullet during the shooting, which involved two vehicles in a parking lot near Jane Street and Stong Court.
The shooting began when two occupants of a Honda stolen agreement left the vehicle and began shooting another vehicle in the parking lot, according to an agreed statement of events in the case, that the prosecutors of the crown ended up appearing to a jury when the trial began in April 2025.
Three occupants of the other vehicle were injured, including a person who was shot four times but survived. Two other occupants of the second vehicle were not beaten by shooting, according to the declaration of facts.
They told the jury that they were there that afternoon to make a drug agreement. Both approached adolescents in the car to ask if one of them was the buyer.
Chambers and Smart testified that they opened fire after seeing one of the teenagers pointing with a weapon out the window.
The crown had argued that they were lying on the teenagers who had a gun and that there was no planned drug business, saying that the three men went to the area with a plan to shoot adolescents inside the car.
Andreatta was hit by a bullet during the shooting while walking in the area, according to the court. He died at the hospital four days later for a gunshot wound to his neck.
The individuals in the helpful Honda Accord fled the scene after filming. The next day, the police found the Honda stolen agreement that was led by Hobbs abandoned in a street without exit about 11 Creditstone Rd., Approximately four kilometers from where the shooting occurred.
Smart and Chambers were arrested two days later in a Canadian tire near Bay Street and Dundas Street W., while Dobbs was arrested on November 12, 2020 in Halifax.
The court heard the police collected 36 bullet guts from the scene.
Chambers and Smart wore Gock 19 guns when they were arrested, and the police determined that the housings found in the scene came from those firearms, according to the declaration of facts.
