RCMP has announced charges against three men who allegedly helped Rabby (Robby) Alkhalil to escape a BC prison in 2022. Since then he has been loose.
The 38 -year -old has an extensive criminal record and was convicted in a murder of Toronto 2012, as well as a murder in Vancouver that same year, and was a member of the list of more search in Canada after the escape.
Alkhalil, originally from Montreal, was arrested at the North Fraser Property Center in Port Coquitlam, BC, for murder charges when he escaped on July 21, 2022.
Police said Monday that three men have been accused of their roles in Alkhalil’s escape. They did not confirm if Alkhalil himself had been arrested.
Edward Ayoub, 48, and John Potvin, 49, both from Ottawa, and Ryan Van Gool, 46, of Harrison Hot Springs, BC, have been accused of conspiracy to commit violations in prison and rape in prison.
RCMP CPL. Sarbjit Sangha said on Monday that the video images released from the prison holidays helped the officers identify the men who supposedly helped Alkhalil’s escape.
“As this investigation is in court, I will not be able to go into details exactly who was in that video,” he said.

The frustrated murder plot, says the police
Police also announced more positions in relation to alleged murder plots and shooting around BC that saw the participation of Van Gool and two other men, who were not involved in jail.
“In March 2024, while conducting Alkhalil’s investigation, the police discovered information that has now led to additional positions against Ryan Van Gool and two men for allegedly conspiring to kill an individual in Kamloop,” said RCMP SGT spokesman. Tammy Lobb on Monday.
Lobb said Van Gool, Bryce Telford, 28, and Scott Telford, 61, both originating in Surrey, have been accused of conspiracy to commit murder and possession of weapons.
“Our researchers discovered an additional murder conspiracy that was about to happen that they avoided, preserving public security in one of our communities here in our province,” Lobb said. “Then they need to be applauded for that today.”
The spokesman also said that Van Gool has been accused in relation to a shooting at Maple Ridge in January 2024.
In total, including charges related to prison escape, the police said 17 charges against five men were presented on Monday.
