Forest officials arrested three villagers for cutting and destroying the carcass of a tiger killed by electrocution after it came in contact with an electrified fence at a farm in Zanjeriya forest in Bhandara, Maharashtra.
Pirtaram Warkhede (55), Durgesh Lasunte (55) and Rajendra Kunjam (50) were detained and taken into forest custody. Warkhede found the body on his farm and asked others for help. Unable to move the body, they used an ax to dismember it into pieces, which they threw.
The tools used were recovered, but the cables and bicycles used for transport are still missing. Investigations revealed burn marks, indicating an attempt to destroy the body with fire. Authorities are questioning another farmer, whose land borders Warkhede’s.
