3 delivery men killed in blaze at Rajkot building sans fire NOC for 10 years | India News

Rajkot: Rajkot witnessed another fire tragedy on Friday when three deliveries died during a fire inside an exclusive 12 -story residential building that had not renewed its fire for a decade.
The sources suspect an electric short circuit in an unoccupied floor of the sixth floor of the Atlantis building where the furniture work was underway and a lot of wood had been stacked, possibly feeding the flames.
Although Rajkot Municipal Corporation He had issued two notices to Atlantis for Noc’s renovations, the tragedy raised questions about his “aggressive” fire safety application measures following the fire of the TRP game of May 2024 that had gained 27 lives in the city of Gujarat. RMC Ashoksinh Jhala’s fire officer said that no coercive measures were taken against Atlantis management “since it was a residential place.”
Ajay Makwana (31), Kalpesh Lev (29) and his cousin Mayur Lev (27) were captured in the Inferno while delivered orders in floors 8 and 10 of the building. While descending in the elevator, the three were trapped when electricity was cut due to fire. When the elevator stopped on the nearest floor, they took the stairs, without realizing the smoke that extends. Asphyxiation due to dense smoke was fatal.
Those on the seventh floor and ran to the terrace and escaped through a passage common to an adjacent tower.
“Once negligence is established, we will register a crime,” said DCP Jagdish Bangarwa to Toi. The RMC Fire officer, Jhala, said that the building’s fire system was not functional. “The NOC was last renewed in 2014. Despite the notices issued in 2021 and 2023, no renewal was sought,” Jhala added.
