Three people died in a boat accident in alabama lake during a fishing tournament on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The accident between two vessels in Lewis Smith Lake occurred at 7:03 am when a low Nitro boat hit a central console boat, said Alabama’s law agency.
The accident occurred on the second day of the Tackle warehouse invitational, said Major League Fishing in a statement.
“Our deepest thoughts, prayers and concern are with all those affected by this tragic incident,” said Major League Fishing.
The dead were identified as Joey M. Broom, 58; John K. Clark, 44; And Jeffrey C. Little, 62, said Alabama’s Law Application Agency.
The three were on the ship of the central console, the agency said. Clark and Little were thrown overboard and drowned, he said, while Broom died of injuries in the accident.
“Soldiers with the Aleea Marina Patrol Division are still actively investigating this incident,” the agency said.
The third and last day of the tournament has been canceled, said Major League Fishing.
“This is a heartbreaking moment for our entire organization,” said Kathy Fennel, executive vice president of the MLF and general manager, in a statement.
