3 dead and 2 injured after boat capsizes near New York

At least three people are dead and two are injured after a boat overturned near New York on Sunday, authorities said.

Officials of the New York Fire Department, the New York Police Department and the United States Coast Guard responded to the Ambrose channel after the New York Police received a call of anguish around noon.

The boat overturned in the Newport Walk area known as Breezy Point, New York Police said.

According to the reports, six people were in the water after the boat overturned, said the FDNY.

Five people were rescued from the boat in the water and taken to local hospitals, where three died, New York police said. One person is in critical condition and another is in stable conditions.

The agencies were looking for anyone who can still be in the water on Sunday night. The FDNY said a person is still missing, but New York police could not confirm.

There is no additional information about the victims and it was not clear immediately what type of boat overturned.

Nor was it clear exactly what happened, but the New York Police said there is no other ship that ran into the boat. The investigation is ongoing.
