Aerial firing during New Year celebrations in Karachi injured 26 people who were rushed to several hospitals in the metropolis, officials said Wednesday.
On Sunday, the Karachi Commissionerate issued a notification to impose Section 144 for 48 hours from December 31.

According to information provided by Karachi and Edhi police on Wednesday, the injuries were a result of stray bullets and further investigation was underway.
A total of six injured people were taken to the Civil Hospital. Two were residents of Kumharwada area in Lyari, both aged 25, one aged 23 from Denso Market, another aged 55 from Nishtar Road and one aged 18 and 23 from Lyari’s Ayesha Masjid. and Ghousia Road, Agra Taj Colony, respectively.
Nine injured were brought to Jinnah Hospital, belonging to different areas including Shah Faisal Colony, Tariq Road, Sharea Faisal, Landhi, Korangi, Steel Town and Malir. The youngest victim was an 11-year-old boy, along with three teenagers, two 25-year-olds, one 31-year-old, one 42-year-old and a 50-year-old woman.
The largest number of victims were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital; The victims were a 35-year-old man from Sohrab Goth, three residents of various areas of Liaquatabad aged 18, 24 and 28, a 23-year-old man from North Nazimabad, a 24-year-old man from Orangi Town, a 29-year-old man – years of Qasimabad of Liaquatabad, a 12-year-old boy of Ayesha Manzil, a 29-year-old youth of block 9 of Dastagir, a 17-year-old from Manghopir and a 25-year-old from Liaquatbad.
