A 2 -year -old boy died and others were injured after a vehicle crashed into an Illinois restaurant on Wednesday, in what the police said it seems to be an accident.
Police in Oswego, a town of 34,000 around 40 miles west Chicago, responded to the reports that a vehicle had crashed into the location of a portillo at 1:55 pm, police chief Jason Bastin said.
A 50 -year -old driver, who was alone in the vehicle, crashed into the main entrance of the Chicago Street food style restaurant on Route 34, he said.
“Our research is in its early stages, but preliminary information suggests that this was a tragic incident,” said Bastin.
Fourteen people were injured, eight of which were transported to hospitals in the area, said the boss.
The driver was among the eight injured who were taken to the hospitals, but she was talking after the accident, he said.
Three of the injured people have serious injuries, the head of the Oswego Fire Protection District, Josh Flandes,
The boy who was killed was inside the restaurant when the accident occurred, Bastin said.
“On behalf of the Police and Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the family during this devastating time,” he said at a press conference.
The investigation is in its early stages and Bastin said it was too early to know if charges would be presented.
