Two brothers were killed and his father were injured in a traffic accident that involved an attachment in the Rashid Minhas Road of Karachi near Lucky One Mall on the early Sunday, causing violence of the mafia and protests that interrupted traffic on the key routes of the city, the authorities said.
In recent months, Karachi has witnessed an increase in traffic accidents, especially that they involve heavy vehicles, including Dumpers and water oil tankers, who killed almost 500 people and wounded 4,879 in 2024, according to hospital data.
The Central Police Senior Superintendent (SSP) Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that around 3:15 am, a dumeration truck hit a motorcycle with a family, killing Mahnoor, 22, and his brother Ahmed Raza, 14, and hurting his 48 -year -old father, Shakir.
After the incident, the transporters organized a protest when blocking Rashid Minhas Road and the Superity near Sohrab Goth, causing traffic jams.
The incoming and outgoing roads in Rashid Minhas Road from Sohrab Goth to Gulshan-I-Iqbal closed, while traffic in Al-Asif Square towards the city and towards Hyderabad also stopped in both directions.
“A MOB gathered and set fire to a total of seven dumpers on both sides of the road within the limits of Yusuf Plaza and the police stations of the Federal B area of the area,” said the SSP to Dawn.com.
“The police arrived at the scene to stop the driver and put the Dumper in custody.”
The police cordoned off the area, established amusements and called fire tenders to turn off the fire, said Siddiqi.
“In addition, the police have arrested 14 suspects for charges of burning the Dumpers, and more arrests are being made with the help of videos and technical tests.”
Police surgeon Dr. Sumaiya Syed said Dawn.com The brothers were brought to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital, while their father was injured. Citing relatives, he said that the deceased girl would marry soon.
Dr. Sumaiya said the police brought two drivers with critical wounds after the mafia hit them. She said that the alleged wandering driver was seriously injured but stable, while a driver of another burnt Dumper was also critical of head injuries.
Rescue spokesman 1122, Hassaan Ul Haseb Khan, confirmed that seven dumpers were burned near Lucky One Mall in Gulshan-Iqbal, and added that the tenders of the fire controlled the fire. “Heavy vehicles were seriously damaged in the acts of caused fires,” he said.
Later, a statement from the Office of the Minister of Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, declared that the negotiations between the transporters and the provincial government were successful, and the first agreed to end their demonstration.
A delegation of transporters led by Haji Yousaf and Jam Alam Met Memon in the house of the Karachi commissioner.
The Karachi commissioner, Syed Hassan Naqvi, Transporte Secretary Asad Zamin and the city’s police chief Javed Alam Odho, were also present on the occasion.
The statement added that Memon expressed condolences for those killed in the accident and condemned the “violent acts” that took place later.
“The Sindh government will prioritize the resolution of its legitimate problems (transporters),” Memon said.
“Violence and vandalism are not the solution to these problems. We will work with all the parties to solve the problems of the transport sector and ensure that these incidents do not happen again.”
Memon added that those who committed acts of vandalism and “took the law in their own hands” will be accused under anti -terrorist laws.
“Dumper owners will ensure that their trucks are equipped with cameras and trackers, while they will have insurance licenses and truck drivers,” Memon said. “A committee will be formed to evaluate the losses incurred by transporters.”
Earlier this month, a high -speed tow truck crashed into the Karachi Defense Housing Authority (DHA), wounding two people.
In July, a 59 -year -old milk supplier was killed when a Dumper ran his motorcycle in Saudabad de Karachi.
