The bodies of two people were removed from scattered rubble after neighbors say that a New Jersey house exploded early Sunday.
Two bodies were removed from the scene on Sunday morning after firefighters responded to the intersection of Orion Way and the court of tranquility in the municipality of Washington, in Gloucester County, after the explosion.
The authorities said the bodies were those of a man and a woman. The pair has not been identified.
The authorities said the incident occurred at the 2 am of surveillance images that shows that the house exploded in flames. The authorities are investigating the incident as an “intense fire”, not an explosion, police said.
However, a neighbor said she was sitting at her house, watching a movie with her boyfriend when she listened to an explosion and saw flames shooting from the other property.
“I was terrified, absolutely terrified,” said Susan Pinto. “Because I never heard an explosion like that in my life and it was simply, the house was basically burning to the ground very, very fast.”
Pinto said he called 911 immediately, and firefighters arrived at the scene in a matter of minutes.
10 minutes from the initial explosion, the house was wrapped in flames, the neighbors said.
Two nearby houses were damaged in the incident, authorities said.
The authorities have not provided more information about the deceased, but a neighbor said he would see the man who lived in the house when he walked to his dog.
“He was kind. He was a good guy. He always walked to his dog and things like that. He was a great guy to speak. He will greet himself, conversations here and there,” said the neighbor.
An investigation into what the explosion may have caused is ongoing, authorities said.
