Nueva Delhi: A special court on Tuesday granted life imprisonment to the former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar In case of murder in relation to 1984 Anti-sikh disturbances.
Kumar was convicted of the murder of a father-son duo in November 1984 in Saraswati Vihar de Delhi. Last week, the public prosecutor affirmed that the death penalty should be imposed, quoting the precedents of the case of Nirbhaya and similar failures.
Kumar is currently lodged in Tihar prison.
A Delhi court had condemned Kumar for murder to instigate and lead a mafia that killed a father and son during the anti-sikh disturbances in Saraswati VIhar, northwest of Delhi, 40 years ago. Kumar, already fulfilling life imprisonment in another case of murder related to disturbances.
