19-year-old girl dies in coma after alleged marital rape: Karachi police – Pakistan

A 19 -year -old girl in Lyari from Karachi succumbed to her wounds after an alleged marriage rape at her husband, police said Wednesday.

Earlier this month, the newly married girl was admitted to the Karachi Civil Hospital in critical condition after allegedly enduring “brutal sexual violence” of her husband, who was arrested by the police.

The victim was in a coma and her physical examination findings were “consistent with sexual violence,” police surgeon had declared Dr. Sumaiya Syed.

“The 19 -year -old rape victim died in the Trauma Center of the Karachi Civil Hospital at 10:45 am today,” said Syed today.

It was admitted to the trauma center in a “critical condition”, having suffered a surgical procedure in another hospital, he added.

“His initial findings were positive for sexual violence,” he said.

The police surgeon said Dawn.com That the hospital informed the police and the family to perform a post mortem exam of the body and was waiting for their response.

The officer of the Baghdadi Police Station, Majid Alvi, also confirmed his death to Dawn.com.

He said the girl married on June 15. “Two days later, the husband subjected her to sodomy” and assaulted it with a metal pipe, which led to the deterioration of his health.

The victim’s brother had registered a first information report (FIR) at the Baghdadi Police Station on July 5 under sections 324 (attempt to commit murder) and 376-B (punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Criminal Code.

“On the third day of her marriage, my sister was subjected to brutal sexual violence allegedly by her husband. She remained admitted to a private hospital in the city and was then taken to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Trauma Center of the Karachi Civil Hospital in a critical condition the other day,” he read the fir.

In the FIR, the plaintiff said that his 19 -year -old sister married the suspect on June 15. Her health condition deteriorated on June 30, which forced the family to bring her back home. He informed the parents that on July 17, her husband submitted her to an “anti -natural sexual act.”

He said that the husband also sexually assaulted her with a foreign object. Subsequently, the husband subjected her to sexual violence, which led to bleeding. According to the FIR, the suspect threatened his wife with “terrible consequences” if she revealed something to someone.

Despite the presence of laws against violation, with punishment for violation, whether it results in the death penalty or imprisonment between 10 and 25 years, cases continue to prevail in the country.

In May, two sisters underwent sexual assault at their home in northern Karachi, police and doctors said.

In April, in a rare verdict, an additional district judge and sessions in Gujranwala delivered a rigorous imprisonment of 10 years to a man for submitting his wife to an anti -natural sexual crime.
