15-year-old fatally shot by police on Montreal’s South Shore

The father of a 15 -year -old boy shot and killed by the Longueuil Police on Sunday afternoon is asking for answers.

Sharif Rezay, whose son, Nooran Rezay, was shot dead during a police operation on the southern coast of Montreal, he said through tears on Monday that his son was a loving child who did nothing wrong.

“He was a baby. A small child. Oh, my God,” Sharif told a group of journalists gathered near the corner of Joseph-Daigneault and Monaco streets, where the shooting occurred a day before. “I was always smiling, everyone loved him.”

The Quebec police guardian dog, the BEI, is investigating the shooting. The agency celebrates a morning press conference on Tuesday, an extremely rare step. Normally, the BEI releases only minimal preliminary information about incidents to the public.

Johnny Inthisone, who witnessed the shooting from his home, said the police shot the 15 -year -old “too fast”, barely interacted with the teenager before shooting two bullets.

Inthisone, who lives right next to where the shooting took place, said he saw five young people led by his house on Sunday afternoon. He looked out the window to see what was happening. He said the police reached that moment, and the officers left a patrol, shouted “stop” twice and then opened fire.

Inthisone said the shooting “happened in two seconds, not even.”

“When they shot him, the young man was surprised. He was like ‘Why, why did you shoot me?'” He said Inthisone, describing Nooran’s expression.

He said Nooran fell on the grass when he was beaten. Then, the Police made RCP for several minutes before an ambulance arrived and transported it to the hospital.

The Bei launched what he said was preliminary information about the shooting. The surveillance agency said the Longueuil Police received a 911 call around 2:48 pm from someone who informs a group of armed people in a public place.

The officers arrived at the scene 10 minutes later and “came into contact with the group.”

“During the intervention, a person was hit by a shot shot by the police,” the agency wrote.

Sadness and anger in Longueuil, who., After a 15 -year -old man shot by the police

The Quebec police guardian dog, the BEI, is investigating after a 15 -year -old boy was shot dead by the Longueuil police on Sunday.

Sharif, his face contorted pain, said he had last seen his son on Sunday, when he said he was going to play football with friends. At 1 in the afternoon, Sharif’s wife called Nooran, who said he headed home shortly.

Hours later, at 8:28 pm while playing volleyball, Sharif said he received a call from his family telling him that the police were at home.

In a whirlwind, he learned of his son’s death and traveled to a hospital where he could only look from afar on his son’s face to confirm his identity. Since then, his wife has been repeating “they killed my baby.”

“We need justice,” he said.

Nooran’s family and friends, who visited the shooting scene on Monday, said he was a kind and gentle child. He was not violent, they said, and had only brought his school bag with books when he was shot.

He was a student at André-Laurendeau high school, which is also in Longueuil, not far from where the shooting occurred. A spokesman for the service center that supervises the school said that psychosocial support will be offered to students and the personnel affected by the death of Rezay.

Another witness, Alexandre Girard, who lives near the shooting scene, said he was in his basement on Sunday afternoon when he heard two strong cracks.

He climbed the stairs and saw a person lying on the ground outside with multiple police officers who did CPR. Nearby, a group of young people seemed to be panic, he said.

“It’s worrying,” he said. “You see that happens to a child who goes to the same school as your daughter. It’s worrying.”

The BEI investigates incidents in which people are injured or dead during police interventions. The supervision agency has assigned five investigators to analyze the circumstances of the shooting and is being assisted by the Montreal Police.
