Elizabeth City, NC – A shooting at a small university in eastern North Carolina left a dead person and six other wounds and caused a closing of the campus early, said the university.
The shooting occurred in the center of the Campus of the State University of Elizabeth after Yard Fest, the final event of the Viking Fest celebration of the Historically Black University Week, the school said in a statement.
A 24 -year -old man who was not a student was declared dead. His identity was not immediately released awaiting a notification of his family, according to the statement.
Four people suffered from gunshot wounds, including three students, while two other students were injured during the shock. None of the injuries were considered potentially deadly. All the injured were taken to a hospital to receive treatment, says the statement.
A call to the Campus Police was referred to a University spokesman, who did not immediately respond a telephone message.
“The university is deeply sad for this meaningless act,” said the university in a previous statement.
The blockade got up later, and the university increased patrols throughout the campus as a caution. Access to the center of the campus remained restricted later on Sunday.
