The body of one of the four people who disappear from the Airmedic helicopter accident on Friday on the northern coast of Quebec recovered on Monday night.
The company, which specializes in emergency medical transport, confirmed that the divers with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) recovered one of the members of the aircraft crew around 7 pm.
In a statement on Monday night, Airmedic said his thoughts are “with the family and loved ones of our colleague, to whom we offer our most sincere condolences.”
The victim’s identity will be released by the coroner once the formal identification has been completed and the family’s consent is obtained, said the company.
The Airmedic helicopter that transported four crew members and a passenger crashed into the Watshishou lake around 10:30 pm on Friday, near Natashquan, which., About 1,000 kilometers northeast of Montreal, during a transport operation.
One of the crew members managed to escape in circumstances that are not yet clear. That person was transported to the hospital with injuries that did not enhance life.
Search efforts are expected to locate the aircraft and the other three people who still disappear continue on Tuesday.
“During these painful hours, the entire Airmedic family is mourning,” wrote the company’s spokesman, Raphaële Bourgault in a statement. “We are deeply shocked and solidarity with each other at this difficult time.”
Airmedic said he suspended his flight operations following the accident to prioritize the well -being of their equipment and offer them the support they need.
Psychosocial resources have been made available to employees, the company said.
An independent investigation into the accident has been launched, directed by the Canada Transport Security Board.
